Champion
Speller Syamantak Payra is conducting a free workshop at the Friendswood
Library on June 13.
The
four-time champion of the Clear Creek ISD Spelling Bee and two-time champion of
the Houston Public Media Spelling Bee, Syamantak Payra, is conducting a
Spelling Bee Workshop on Saturday, June 13 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Friendswood
Public Library.
Payra
began competing in Spelling Bees when he was in third grade. Over the past six
years he has gathered a tremendous amount of experience by being a top speller,
not just at the Houston level competitions but also at the National Spelling
Bee. He was a National Finalist in 2013 and a National Semifinalist in 2014.
Payra
now conducts Spelling Bee Workshops to share some of his spelling knowledge and
expertise to the newest generation of spellers; teaching spelling techniques
and dispelling the myth that Spelling Bees are about rote memorization.
The
Friendswood Library workshop, 416 S. Friendswood Drive, is free.
